Inside the Jar: Every Ingredient in Radiance Revival Cream, and Why It's There

Article image 1

Ingredient lists are written in a language almost nobody speaks. They're in Latin, they're in chemistry, and they're printed at a size that assumes you've brought reading glasses to the shop. It's no wonder most people make decisions based on the front of the box instead.

We'd rather do the opposite, and walk you through the back of ours, every meaningful ingredient in Radiance Revival Cream, what it does, and why we chose it over the alternatives. Not because we expect you to memorise it, but because knowing why something is in a formula is the difference between hoping a product works and understanding how it works.

One quick note on reading any ingredient list, which will serve you well for life: ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration, down to 1%. So the things near the top are present in meaningful amounts, and below the 1% mark the order tells you very little. This is why a product can technically "contain" a hero ingredient that's really just there for the label. When you see something impressive listed very near the end, it's fair to ask how much of it is actually in there.

We built this formula around a small number of ingredients doing clearly defined jobs, rather than a long list designed to look generous. Eight of them are worth knowing properly. Here they are, roughly in order of how much heavy lifting they do.

Pentavitin: the 72-hour one

Listed as: Saccharide Isomerate. What it does: hydrates, strengthens the barrier, and holds for up to 72 hours.

This is the ingredient that made the whole formula possible, and it's the reason we can make a hydration claim with a number attached to it rather than a vague promise.

Most hydrating ingredients work on a short lease. They draw water into the upper layers of the skin, hold it for a few hours, and then gradually let it go, which is exactly why skin can feel wonderful at 8am and tight by mid-afternoon. You haven't imagined that. The hydration genuinely has left.

Pentavitin works differently. It's a carbohydrate complex derived from natural sugars, and it's structurally similar to the carbohydrates already present in the skin's outer layer. Rather than floating on the surface, it binds to the skin itself, which means it stays put. It isn't rinsed away by cleansing and it doesn't simply evaporate off over the course of a day. That's what delivers hydration lasting up to 72 hours: not a bigger dose, but a better anchor.

The knock-on effects are the interesting part. Properly hydrated skin has a more resilient barrier, which means less moisture escaping and fewer irritants getting in. It looks smoother, because a plump surface scatters light evenly and a depleted one shows every bit of texture. And it behaves far better under makeup, because foundation glides over hydrated skin instead of grabbing at it.

If you only take one ingredient away from this article, take this one. Long-lasting hydration is unglamorous and it changes more than almost anything else you could do.

The peptide complex: firming and fine lines

Listed as: Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7. What they do: firm, smooth the look of lines, support renewal.

Peptides are the reason this cream is described as peptide powered, and they're worth understanding properly because they're frequently explained badly.

A peptide is a short chain of amino acids, the same amino acids your skin uses as raw material for its own structural proteins. Skin uses peptides as signals. When it encounters certain peptide sequences, it responds by supporting its own firmness and renewal activity. It's less like adding something to the skin and more like passing it a note.

We chose these two specifically because they're among the best-studied in cosmetic use and because they work in complementary ways. Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 is associated with supporting skin's firmness and structural quality. Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 is associated with calming the internal stress response in skin, which matters more than it sounds, because chronic irritation is one of the things that makes skin look tired and less resilient over time. Firm and calm, working together.

The visible result is a smoother, firmer-looking surface and a softening in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Why peptides and not a retinoid? Because we wanted a cream anyone could use nightly, straight away, without an adjustment period. Retinoids are effective and they have their place, but they come with flaking, sun sensitivity and a real risk of irritation, particularly for anyone whose barrier is already struggling. Peptides are the gentler route. The honest trade-off is patience: they build with consistent use rather than arriving overnight. Four to six weeks before you judge, please.

Tasmanian Pepperberry Extract: the calm

Listed as: Tasmannia Lanceolata Leaf Extract. What it does: soothes, reduces the look of redness, delivers antioxidants.

We are, admittedly, a little sentimental about this one, but it's here on merit.

Tasmanian Pepperberry is a native Australian plant that grows in genuinely hostile conditions: cold, wind, high UV, poor soil. Plants that survive that sort of environment tend to develop robust protective chemistry, and pepperberry is notably rich in antioxidants and polyphenols. Antioxidants matter because they help defend skin against the environmental stress that dulls it, and in this country, environmental stress is not a theoretical concern.

Its more immediate contribution is calming. It helps soothe irritated skin and reduce the appearance of redness, which is precisely what stressed, over-worked skin is asking for. If your skin has become reactive, stinging at products, flushing easily, generally behaving as though it's had enough, this is the ingredient in the formula speaking directly to you.
It also does a job we didn't expect it to. Because we made the cream completely fragrance free, we lost the usual shortcut for making a product feel soothing and pleasant. Pepperberry addresses the discomfort itself rather than covering it with a nice scent, which is a better answer even if it's a quieter one.

And yes, there's something we rather like about an Australian botanical, in a cream made in Australia, formulated for Australian skin. That's not why it's in there. But we're not going to pretend we don't enjoy it.

The supporting cast: hydration, seal and softness

The heroes get the headlines, but the texture, the part you'll actually notice every night, comes from these.

Sodium Hyaluronate. The lower-molecular-weight relative of hyaluronic acid, which means it works into the skin rather than sitting heavily on top. Its job is immediate plumpness: it holds a remarkable amount of water and gives you that quenched, cushioned look straight after application. Where Pentavitin is the long game, this is the instant one.

Glycerin. Deeply unfashionable and completely indispensable. One of the most reliable, best-understood humectants ever used in skincare, it draws water into the skin and it simply works. Anyone selling you a formula without it is making things harder than they need to be.

Squalane. A beautifully lightweight emollient that closely resembles lipids the skin produces naturally, which is why it absorbs so readily and never feels heavy. It softens, smooths, and helps prevent moisture escaping. Ours is plant-derived, the cream is vegan throughout.

Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii). The comfort ingredient. Rich in fatty acids, nourishing, and the reason the cream feels genuinely cosseting rather than merely functional. It's a large part of why this works so well as a night step.

Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis). Conditioning and smoothing, high in vitamin E, and long-trusted for softening skin without a greasy finish.

Jojoba Seed Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis). The clever one. Technically a wax ester rather than an oil, and remarkably similar to skin's own sebum, which is why it balances rather than adds. It's the reason this cream suits oilier and combination skin as well as dry.

Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E). Antioxidant support, and it works well alongside the pepperberry.

Together, these four oils and butters form the seal, the layer that keeps all that carefully drawn-in water where it belongs, so it's still there in the morning.

What we deliberately left out

A formula is defined as much by its omissions as its inclusions, so here's the honest list.

No fragrance. Not a reduced amount, not "naturally derived" fragrance, none. Fragrance is one of the most common triggers for sensitivity in skincare, and it made no sense to build a barrier-supporting cream and then add the ingredient most likely to provoke the skin we were trying to settle. It cost us the instant sensory impression that fragrance provides. We think it was worth it, and if you've ever had a reaction to a product you'll agree.

No parabens. A straightforward response to a question we're asked constantly. Our preservative system uses Hydroxyacetophenone and 1,2-Hexanediol instead, a modern, well-tolerated combination. And yes, a cream containing water absolutely must be preserved; anything else would be unsafe. The question is which system, not whether.

Nothing animal-derived. Fully vegan, including the Squalane, which is plant-sourced rather than the traditional alternative.

No gluten. For anyone who needs to ask, the answer is a clear no.

And no filler heroes. We could have added a dozen more extracts to lengthen the list and look generous. We didn't, because ingredients present at a fraction of a percent are decoration rather than performance, and a shorter list gives each ingredient room to work, while reducing the number of things that could upset sensitive skin.

Eight ingredients doing real jobs. Everything else there to carry, preserve or stabilise them. That's the whole formula, and now you know it as well as we do.

Made in Australia. Plump, firm, revive.
